Summer Explorers

  • Summer Explorers camp is held on the Guilford Campus at 1128 New Garden Road.

Summer Explorers is a level of summer camp that allows rising 6th and 7th graders to explore new activities and themes in an age-appropriate group. Themes for this program were created using a blend of ideas from both our Navigators and Middle School Electives’ sessions, giving the participants a bridge between the two camps. In addition to activities on campus, we offer several field trip opportunities within walking distance of campus. The smaller group size in this program provides the opportunity to do more in-depth and developmentally appropriate activities and projects.

2025 Summer Explorers Sessions

June 9-13 - Photography ($280)

Bring your camera and get ready to turn the lens on the world around us. This session is designed to give students a chance to view the world through a camera lens as they learn various techniques to photograph people, nature, and architecture. We will visit a number of locations in and around Greensboro throughout the week on our photographic adventure. Participants will spend time each day photographing in various locations indoors and out, and will then have the opportunity to edit photos and share them with their fellow campers. A variety of camera techniques will be introduced, as well as different methods for editing and manipulating photos. Participants are welcome to bring their own camera from home, or borrow one of our loaners for the week. We will also invite families to join us Friday afternoon for our final photography showcase.

June 16-20* - Outdoor Adventure ($225)

*This is a 4-day week, as we are closed Thursday, June 19, for the national holiday, Juneteenth.

Strap on your hiking boots and don’t forget your compass and sun hat! Learn all about “roughing it” as we learn how to pitch a tent, use a compass, cook s’mores, and observe the natural world around us. We will go on a “survival challenge”, look for aquatic macroinvertebrates as we assess stream health, make campfire cookies, mix up our own delicious and nutritious trail mix, and make a variety of paracord creations. We will be visiting area parks, playgrounds, and streams as we hike, explore, and geocache our way through the week while we learn about the great outdoors!

June 23-27 - Wacky, Weird Science ($280)

Want to be enveloped in a giant bubble? Make elephant toothpaste? Fold a piece of paper 8 times? This week, we will do all kinds of fun, crazy experiments and do some mythbusting of urban lore along the way. We will do some kitchen science and get to taste our results. Bring your ideas for an experiment that you want to see tested and we will find out the mysteries of the universe together!

July 7-11 -Farm to Table ($280)

Ever wonder where your food comes from or how all those items get to the aisles of the grocery store? This week we’ll go farm to table, literally! With visits to the Guilford College Farm, a grocery store, and a local bakery. We will go behind the scenes to learn all about how our food is raised, grown, shipped, delivered, and prepared. Of course, we’ll don our chef hats for some kitchen creations of our own, including tasty appetizers and delicious desserts!

July 14-18 - Make It Yourself ($310)

Welcome to our makerspace! Participants will design and create their own decals, stickers, and tshirts, and learn how to make totally groovy tie dyes. Campers will learn how to etch designs into slate or glass, create shrinking art, and explore different dyeing techniques. Can you make it out of pom-poms? Does it need more glitter? Is there such a thing as too many colors? Let your creativity flow!

July 21-25 - Goofing Off in Greensboro ($310)

This week gives campers the opportunity to explore Greensboro and its many interesting places and activities. Two days of the week, participants will get to select where to eat at local restaurants for lunch. We will see an appropriately rated movie and take time to explore some of the beautiful parks that are right here in the Gate City. On Monday, participants will have an opportunity to help plan the schedule, so bring your own ideas of fun things to do!
