Director of Philanthropy and Community Engagement

Classification: Exempt – Full-time 12-month position
Reports to: Head of School

Position Summary:
The Director of Philanthropy and Community Engagement is a key member of the senior leadership team, responsible for advancing the mission of the school through strategic philanthropy, stewardship, and meaningful community engagement. Grounded in Quaker values, this role fosters a culture of generosity and inclusion that strengthens relationships across all constituencies—families, alumni, trustees, faculty/staff, and the broader community.

The Director designs and executes all aspects of the school’s fundraising, including annual giving, major gifts, special campaigns, alumni relations, and events, and ensures that philanthropy is aligned with the school's strategic vision.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

  • Models the mission and Quaker values of New Garden Friends School
  • Develops, leads, and implements a comprehensive, mission-aligned fundraising strategy to support the Fund for Friends, the Endowment, and other needs as identified by the Head of School and the Board of Trustees
  • Continually assesses and reports on the effectiveness of fundraising events: Day of Giving, Fun Run, Running of the Bears 5K, Golf Tournament, and others
  • Maintains accurate and thorough donor and constituent data in FACTSGIVING
  • Analyzes giving data to develop targeted fundraising strategies for specific needs and constituent groups
  • Collaborates with other administrators to develop relationships with new families.
  • Cultivates and stewards relationships with current and prospective donors, including parents, alumni, grandparents, and community partners.
  • Oversees the annual Fund for Friends, working closely with parents, staff, board members, and alumni volunteers to meet participation and revenue goals
  • Collaborates with the Head of School, Board of Trustees, and senior administrators on major donor identification, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Prepares and presents consistent monthly dashboard report to the Board, detailing fundraising progress and goals
  • Supervises Philanthropy Associate
  • Manage department budgets and vendors related to events, communications, and philanthropy operations

Community Engagement

  • Serve as a connector and convener, strengthening relationships among and between New Garden Friends School and Quaker organizations throughout the Triad
  • Contribute to developing a palpable sense of community among students, staff, families, and community organizations
  • Collaborate with Quaker Life, Admissions, Division Heads, and other departments to integrate community engagement across school programs
  • Design and/or support community events that promote school spirit, gratitude, and shared purpose, including the Fall Unity Festival, Grandparents’ Day, Moonlight Madness, Alumni, and service initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Communications and Marketing to ensure timely, mission-forward communication around philanthropic and community initiatives.
    Serve as staff liaison to the Parent and Community Association  

Alumni & Constituent Relations

  • Build and maintain a robust alumni relations program that engages former students as supporters, ambassadors, and mentors
  • Develop and oversee alumni events, networking programs, and communications

Performs other duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or related nonprofit leadership, preferably in education.
  • Knowledge of Quaker values and principles, or a demonstrated commitment to learning and integrating them into leadership and practice.
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion in community-building and philanthropic practices.
  • Proven success in major gift cultivation and solicitation.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with volunteers and boards.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Willingness to lead, take charge, and offer opinions and direction.
  • Willingness to continue professional development.  

Additional Desirable Attributes:

  • Familiarity with the Google suite of products and fundraising databases (e.g., FACTSGIVING, Raiser's Edge, etc.).
  • Comfort with public speaking and representing the school to diverse audiences
  • A collaborative spirit, deep listening skills, and a joyful approach to relationship-centered work

Middle School Learning Specialist

New Garden Friends School, a PK-12 Friends School in Greensboro, N.C., seeks a full-time Middle School Learning Specialist for the 2025-2026 school year. The Learning Specialist will support students' academic progress and achievement in our classrooms and through the Polaris Learning Labs.

The Position:
In partnership with the Head of Middle School, School Counselor, and teaching staff, the Learning Specialist supports student learning in a dynamic, student-focused, social, and emotionally responsive learning environment in which teaching for understanding, integrity, and compassion are the guides.

The Learning Specialist uses a variety of research-based practices to equip students with executive functioning skills, as well as assist students with diagnosed or demonstrated needs for support. Additionally, the Learning Specialist facilitates individual and small group faculty workshops in and out of the classroom to model, partner, and support faculty to differentiate instruction for all students, integrate metacognitive strategies for learning, and design and practice student-centered learning approaches.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years’ successful experience as a Learning Specialist.
  • Experience interpreting educational testing, designing accommodations, and administering or coordinating school-based programs.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of research on learning and the brain, tools, and approaches to assist students with learning differences.
  • Effective communication skills that promote positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong work ethic, exemplary character, and a deep commitment to confidentiality.
  • Commitment to a strengths-based approach to learning differences.
  • Commitment to diverse and inclusive classrooms.
  • Knowledge of and ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all students.

Primary Responsibilities include:

  • Work in partnership with the Head of Middle and Upper School,  Academic Dean, and teachers to support student learning for students with evaluations and academic challenges.
  • Collaborate with the administrative and academic team to create and/or recommend teacher professional development opportunities.
  • Meet and collaborate with parents and students before the academic year to discuss their child’s learning needs and develop individualized support plans, accommodations, and modifications.
  • Develop and update student “learning plans” and recommendations for student accommodations and modifications each fall.
  • Facilitate learning and support for faculty to enable teachers to differentiate instruction, integrate metacognitive strategies, teach toward mastery, and use student-centered methodologies across all subject areas and grade levels.
  • Analyze and summarize psychoeducational evaluations to develop a learning profile designed to best serve a student’s academic and social-emotional needs.
  • Ensure that families and teachers have a clear understanding of the learning profile and what steps and/or accommodations will be provided to support the student.
  • Provide targeted support to students in the Academic Skills for Success and Guided Study Hall classes.
  • Provide academic support to students with evaluations through skill-building, metacognitive learning strategies, and direct curricular teaching.
  • Monitor and document the progress of all students receiving support.
  • Identify students who may benefit from psychoeducational testing and meet with parents and teachers to discuss observations and next steps.
  • When appropriate, assist teachers and families in development of behavior modification plans.
  • Assist teachers, students, and families in the development of an appropriate, responsive plan for coming back to school after an extended absence.
  • Collaborate with tutors to ensure students are adequately supported in and out of school.
  • Promote equity and inclusion for students in all classrooms.
  • Coordinate with the Lower School Learning Specialist to ensure that students’ learning support needs can be appropriately met upon entering middle school.
  • Collaborate with Admissions to assess Middle School applicants and ensure each newly-admitted student requiring resources is appropriately supported.

Required Education:

  • A Bachelor’s of Arts in special/exceptional education, specific learning differences, reading, or a learning differences related field (MA in related field preferred).

  • Is a student advisor and participates in student development activities
  • Holds one “office hour” per week outside of the regular school day
  • Participates in staff meetings, professional learning sessions, and conferences
  • Chaperones one to two yearly overnight trips
  • Provide consistent communication with parents/guardians
     

Required Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree either in Math or in a field that closely relates to Math
  • Teaching experience in Math or equivalent combination of education and experience

Robotics and Coding Teacher (part-time)

Part-time
Lower, Middle, and Upper School
Grades K-6 and 7-12

New Garden Friends School, a PK-12 Friends School in Greensboro, N.C., seeks a part-time Robotics and Coding teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. At the Lower School level, students have Coding one day per week for 30 minutes. Middle and Upper School students can take Robotics 1 as an elective five days a week for 50 minutes. For students in grades 7-12, ample student interest will generate an after-school option for Robotics 2 for two to three days each week.
